I hope your child’s school year has gotten off to a great start. This has been an exciting start to our school year with the passage of the levy in May and the rating of Excellent with Distinction from the Ohio Department of Education. It is a great time to be a Comet!
The passage of our levy along with the cuts we have made over the last few years and the infusion of federal stimulus money will allow us to submit a five-year forecast that projects a positive balance for all five years. This is the first time this has happened in years. While this is great news, I need to caution everyone that the election and the economy can change things very quickly. We will keep the community informed of our financial situation through our website and community meetings.

Academically, we are thrilled at being rated Excellent with Distinction! This rating was made possible by a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Our students and teachers really stepped up to the challenge and made this all possible by giving their best efforts. I am very pleased with our administrative team and the hard work and sacrifices they have made to create the positive learning culture in our buildings. Our curriculum department, technology department and special services department also played a key role in our improvement. I would also like to thank our support staffs who work everyday to make sure our kids have a safe and clean learning environment. We are also fortunate to have a Board of Education that supports efforts and programs that benefit our students. It truly does take a village to educate a child.

I would like to thank our parents and community members for supporting our schools and showing these students that education is important by passing new levy money in a very difficult economic time. Strong schools certainly help make a strong community and I believe the success of the school system has been a huge positive for our community.

We have made some big improvements around our district including paving the parking lots at the high school, junior high and middle school as well as landscaping at several of our buildings that has made a huge difference. We are doing the best we can to maintain our facilities but each year it becomes more difficult due to the age and condition of our buildings. The district still intends to renovate the high school and move the 9th graders into that building next school year as well as close Lakeview Elementary. A final decision should be made around the middle of December.

A great big THANK YOU to everyone that has worked so hard to get our district where it is today. The sign of a great school system is can that school district maintain excellence year in and year out. We believe we have put ourselves in the position where we expect excellence each year and we will continue to work very hard to continue to improve in all areas.

Thank you for your continued support and have a great year!
